中秋の名月（または十五夜の月）の夜、私のうちの周りには、子ども達の元気な声が響きます。
「お月見どろぼうで～す！こんばんは！！」
日本では古くから「澄んだ秋の空に昇る」この月を鑑賞する風習があります。
秋は収穫の季節でもあり、ススキとともに里芋やお月見団子をお供えして、静かに月を眺めます。
昔々、人々が大変貧しかった頃、十五夜の月に見守られてお芋やお団子をこっそり持っていくのは罪になりませんでした。人の畑に植えてある里芋を引き抜いて騒ぐ若者も、この日ばかりは大目に見られたそうです。
この「十五夜のどろぼう」が子ども達のお楽しみ「お月見どろぼう」へと変化して いったのでしょうか。現代っ子たちは大きなリュックサックを背負って、近所の家々を回ります。１時間もすると数ヶ月分のおやつが背中にずっしりとたまります。

It is the Harvest Moon (or Jugoya's full moon), and around our house the sound of children's excited voices can be heard all round. "It's the Moon Robber! Good evening!"
In Japan, from days of old there has been a custom to appreciate this moon as it rises in the clear autumn sky. Autumn is the season for harvest, and we offer moon-shaped rice dumplings, sweet potatoes together with Susuki grass, as we gaze at the moon .
A long time ago, at a time when people were very poor, it was not seen as a crime to secetly steal the dumplings and sweet potatoes guarded by (left for) the Harvest full moon. On this day only, it was apparently overlooked when young people went yelling and running into other people's fields and pulling out the sweet potatoes planted there.
This Jugoya moon stealing may have changed into the children's game "Moon Robber". In modern times, children carry large rucksacks on thier backs, and go around the neighbors' homes. After an hour has passed a whole month's worth of candies is stacked up on their backs.
