おしゃれステテコ Oshare Steteco

日本では梅雨頃から夏にかけて、デパートなどで「おしゃれステテコ」というものが売られ、人気を集めています。

「ステテコ」とは、膝下ぐらいの丈の、ズボンの下に着る通気性のよい下着のことで、夏は汗を吸い取るため、冬は防寒のためと、一年中活躍する優れものです。

主に中高年の男性がはくもので、色は白が定番でした。

ところが、数年前から「おしゃれステテコ」といいうファッション性の高い「ステテコ」が

登場し、「おじさんたちがはく、白い下着」というイメージを覆しています。

Steteco are a type of underwear that allow for breathability, they come down below the knees, and are worn under trousers. 水族館にパンダ？ Panda bears in the aquarium

先日、水族館に行きました。

水族館は娘が好きな場所で、行く頻度が高いので年間パスポートも持っているほどです。娘のお目当てはペンギンで、訪れるたびに、必ず「ペンギンの所に行く」と言います。

その日もいつものように、私たちがペンギンの前で観察していると、後ろで男の子とお父さんの会話が聞こえてきました。

「パンダは？」

「ここは水族館だからね、いないんだよ。」

「ねえ、パンダは？パンダはどこ？」

「だから、ここにはパンダはいないの！ほら、ペンギンだよ。かわいいね～。

「やだ！パンダ～！パンダ見たい～！」

「だから、いないの！パンダは動物園にいるの！

どうやら、男の子は水族館にパンダがいると勘違いをしていたようで、結局、その子は私たちがそこを立ち去るまで、ずっと駄々をこね続けていました。

水族館にパンダ・・・どうして男の子は水族館にパンダがいると思ったのでしょう？私はその２人のやりとりが、なんだかおかしくて、その日はずっと思い出し笑いをしていました。

みなさんも子どもの頃、お父さんやお母さんに無理難題を言って困らせた経験はありませんか？

水族館（すいぞくかん）にパンダ？

先日（せんじつ）、水族館（すいぞくかん）に行（い）きました。

水族館（すいぞくかん）は娘（むすめ）が好（す）きな場所（ばしょ）で、行（い）く頻度（ひんど）が高（たか）いので、年間（ねんかん）パスポートも持（も）っているほどです。

娘（むすめ）のお目当（めあ）てはペンギンで、訪（おとず）れるたびに、必（かなら）ず「ペンギンの所（ところ）に行（い）く」と言（い）います。

その日（ひ）も、いつものように私（わたし）たちがペンギンの前（まえ）で観察（かんさつ）していると、後（うし）ろで男（おとこ）の子（こ）とお父（とう）さんの会話（かいわ）が聞（き）こえてきました。

「ここは水族館（すいぞくかん）だからね、いないんだよ。」

どうやら、男（おとこ）の子（こ）は水族館（すいぞくかん）にパンダがいると勘違（かんちが）いをしていたようで、結局（けっきょく）、その子（こ）は私（わたし）たちがそこを立（た）ち去（さ）るまで、ずっと駄々（だだ）をこね続（つづ）けていました。

Panda bears in the aquarium

I went to the aquarium the other day.

My daughter really likes the aquarium and we go there so frequently that we have an annual passport (like a one year season ticket) for it.

My daughter's main aim is to see the penguins, so every time we visit she always says “I'm going to see the penguins”.

On that day as well, we were standing in front of the penguins, watching them as we always do, when a small boy and his father came up behind us and we overheard their conversation.

“Where are the pandas?”

“This is an aquarium, there aren't any here.”

“Bu...but how about the pandas? Where are the pandas?”

“I just said there aren't any pandas here ! Look there are some penguins. Aren't they cute ?”

“Don't wanna ! The pandas ! I wanna see the pandas !”

“I told you, there aren't any here. Pandas are in the zoo !”

For some reason it seems that the boy had misunderstood that there were pandas in the aquarium, and in the end he just went on having his tantrum for the whole time until we left the spot.

Pandas in the aquarium...I wonder why the boy thought that there were pandas in an aquarium ? The two of us found their conversation kind of funny and we always remember that day and have a laugh about it.

車のない生活 Life without a car

みなさんは、車を持っていますか？車は、住む場所によっては生活に欠かせない大切な足ですね。わたしは、車を持たない生活を始めてから５年になります。以前北海道に住んでいた時は、みんなで乗れる大きい車に乗っていましたが、その後東京に住むことが決まって、手放すことにしました。

手放す理由は３つありました。

１つ目は、東京には北海道のように広くて美しい景色の道がないこと。

２つ目は、わたしたちが住むマンションの駐車スペースを買う場合は350万円、借りる場合は月に3万円もかかること。

３つ目は、本当に車が必要かどうか考えたとき、わたしたち家族にとって車は「どうしても必要なもの」ではなかったこと。

こうして車のない生活を選んでから、普段の交通手段は電車か自転車になりました。旅行に行くときや外出するときは、荷物を厳選するようになりました。荷造りも上手になったと思います。雨の日や、大きい荷物があるときは、車がほしいな～と思うこともありますが、東京に住んでいるかぎり、この生活を続けようと思っています。

Do you have a car ? A car, depending on where you live, is an indispensable part of life as the means of transportation. It has been 5 years now since I started my life without a car. Before when I lived in Hokkaido, I used to drive a big car that could get everyone in it, but after we decided to move to Tokyo, I had to give it up.

There were 3 reasons to give up the car

The first is that there aren't any roads with beautiful scenery to drive on in Tokyo like there are Hokkaido.

The second is that, in my apartment building if one was to buy a car park space, it would cost 3.5 million and it costs 30 thousand yen per month to rent.

The third is when I started to consider whether we really need a car or not, our family decided that it was not absolutely necessary.

So after deciding on a life with no car in this way, my daily means of transport became trains and my bicycle. Whenever I go on a trip or just go out, I have learned to choose my luggage carefully. I think I've become really good at packing. There are times, like on rainy days and on days when I've got a lot to carry, that I wish that I had a car, but as long as I live in Tokyo, I am going to continue this lifestyle.

弁当男子 Bento Danshi : lunchboxes and Japanese men

みなさんは、「弁当男子」という言葉を聞いたことがありますか。この言葉がブームになったのは２、３年ほど前のことですが、今やすっかり世間に定着した感があります。

「弁当男子」とは、自分でお弁当を作り、職場や学校に持っていく男性のことです。「弁当男子」が増えた背景には、景気の悪化やエコブーム、健康志向などがあると言われています。雑貨屋や生活用品の店には「弁当男子」コーナーが設けられ、ビジネス用のかばんに入れやすい、細長い形のお弁当箱がたくさん並んでいます。

先日、テレビ番組で「弁当男子」のお弁当の中身が紹介されていましたが、厚焼き卵やハンバーグなど、どれを見てもおいしそうで、主婦顔負けの出来栄えでした。いずれにしても、料理ができる男性が増えることは、一女性として大歓迎です。

みなさんの国に、「弁当男子」はいますか？

日本では、春は“スタート”の季節です。みなさんも明日から「弁当男子」「弁当女子」として、スタートしてみませんか。

Have you heard the word “Bento Danshi”. This word was a fad about 2 or 3 years ago, but now it seems to have become popular usage.

“Bento Danshi” is a man or boy that makes his own of lunchboxes to take to school or the office. The economic downturn, the boom in ecological thinking, the rise in health-consciousness are said to be some of the things behind the increase of “Bento Danshi”. Knick-knack stores, and everyday goods shops around Japan have added special Bento Danshi corners and there are a lot of thin and long lunchboxes that are designed to fit into briefcases on display.

There was a TV spot the other day in which some men showed what went into their lunchboxes. There were thick Japanese omelets, hamburger meat steaks and each and every one looked really delicious – it was a performance that would put any housewife to shame. But anyway, I, as a woman heartily welcome the increase of men who can cook.
