以前、私のクラスを受けた生徒さんには紹介したことのある話です。この図を見てください。

この中に漢字が隠れているのがわかりますか？

たとえば、

赤い線を見てください。

漢字の「田」が隠れていますよね。

今度は、王様の「王」という字が隠れていますよ。

他にも、「上」や「下」、「土」、「正しい」などの字が隠れています。

あなたはいくつ探せますか？挑戦してみてください。

漢字（かんじ）のかくれんぼ

　以前（いぜん）、私（わたし）のクラスを受（う）けた生徒（せいと）さんには紹介（しょうかい）したことのある話です。

　この図（ず）を見（み）てください。

　この中に漢字（かんじ）が隠（かく）れているのがわかりますか？

　たとえば、

赤（あか）い線（せん）を見てください。

漢字（かんじ）の「田（た）」が隠（かく）れていますよね。

今度（こんど）は、王様（おうさま）の「王（おう）」という字（じ）が隠（かく）れていますよ。

他（ほか）にも、「上（うえ）」や「下（した）」、「土（つち）」、「正（ただ）しい」などの字（じ）が隠（かく）れています。

Look at this graph below.

Can you see the hidden Kanji characters hidden in it ?

For example - 

Look at the red lines, the Kanji character for rice field ( ta – 田) is hidden in there.

Next can you see the Kanji character for king is also hidden in there ( oh – 王) ?

There are other characters too, the characters or up ( ue - 上 ), down ( shita - 下 ), soil (tsuchi - 土 ), correct ( tadashii – 正しい) are hidden in the graph . 

How many can you find ? Give it a shot!

この写真は、私の部屋の窓から見える風景です。12月10日の朝、撮影しました。この写真を撮った日は、この冬、一番の寒さでした。私の住んでいるところは、雪がたくさん降るところです。もしかしたら、このブログをみなさんが読んでいるときは、もっと雪が積もっているかもしれません。

ところで、みなさんは、『冬将軍』ということばを知っていますか？

　冬将軍とは「とても寒い冬」という意味です。日本のニュースや天気予報では、とても寒い冬が来たことを「冬将軍の到来」と紹介しています。いつごろからこのように言われているのか分かりませんが、1812年ナポレオンがロシア遠征で雪と寒さから失敗したことが関係して、このことばが生まれたそうです。

　私は寒い冬が嫌いです。だから、冬将軍には来て欲しくないですね。

This photograph is the view from my room's window.

It was taken on the morning of December 10^th. The day I took this photo was the coldest day of winter. The place where I live gets a lot of snowfall. Perhaps when you read this blog, more snow will have piled up.

By the way, have you heard the term 'Fuyu Shougun' before ? 'Fuyu Shougun' means a really cold winter. On the news in Japan, when we get an extremely cold winter, it gets introduced on the weather forecast as a 'Fuyu Shougun'. I am not sure when they began to call it this, but it is related to Napoleon's expedition to Russia that failed due to the snow and cold and gave birth to this word.

Personally I hate winter. I really hope that 'Fuyu Shougun' doesn't come this year.

虫除け Japanese insect repellant

この写真は私の部屋の窓です。何がぶらさがっていると思（おも）いますか？「芳香剤？」と思う人もいるかもしれませんね。

日本に住んでいる人、日本人の人はご存知でしょうが、実はこれ、虫除けなんです。このケースの中に、薬のフィルムがあり、虫が近づかないようになっているんです。蚊取り線香の方が煙が出るので効き目がありそうに感じるかもしれませんが、こちらの方がよく効きます。２か月くらい効くそうです。

火を使わないため、火事の心配もなく、煙でのどを痛めることもないので、本当に便利です。みなさんの国でもこのようなものを使っていますか？

This is a photo taken in my room. What do you thing that thing is hanging over there ? I guess some people will guess that , “It's something aromatic ?”

Japanese people and people living in Japan will probably know what it is, but actually it is an insect repellant. Inside this case is a film of medicinal chemicals that keeps bugs from getting close to it. You may think that a mosquito coil would be more effective since smoke comes out of it, but this method is actually the more effective one. It lasts for 2 whole months.

And, since there is no need for a flame, the worry of a house fire is unnecessary too, and adding the fact that due to the lack of smoke, there are no more sore throats either, makes this a very convenient device.

いらなくなったメガネ Useless Glasses

みなさんは、メガネをかけていますか？

私は、遠視のため、二十歳ころからメガネを愛用しています。

ずっと同じ状態なら、いいのですが、年齢やパソコンを使った仕事などが原因で、メガネの度があわなくなってきます。家には、いらなくなったメガネが捨てられず、２本そのままになっています。みなさんは、いらなくなったメガネをどうしていますか？

最近、インターネットで「いらなくなったメガネをスリランカの人たちに贈る」というボランティアを知りました。

スリランカでは、長い間の内戦で、国民たちが貧しい生活を送っているそうです。貧しい生活が原因で栄養不足になり、視力の低下や目の病気の方が多いそうです。貧しいスリランカの人たちにとって、メガネはとても高価なもので、買うことができず、結局、見えないままになっている人もいるのだそうです。その話を聞いて「私のいらないメガネが他の人の役に立ったらいいな」と思い、寄付をしました。

みなさんは、いらなくなったメガネをどうしていますか？

最近（さいきん）、インターネットで「いらなくなったメガネをスリランカの人たちに贈（おく）る」というボランティアを知（し）りました。

Do you wear glasses ?

I have been wearing glasses regularly for far-sightedness since I was in my twenties.

It would be OK if my eyes' condition stayed the same, but due to age and working with computers, my glasses no longer fit my eyes. At my home there are two pairs of glasses left lying around that I have not thrown away yet.

What do you do with your useless glasses ?

Recently I found out about a volunteer group that sends glasses that are not being used to Sri Lanka.

In Sri Lanka, due to a long civil war, there are many people living under conditions of poverty. And due to the poverty, the people have gotten a lack of nutrition and there are many people with failing eyesight and eye diseases there. For the people in Sri Lanka, glasses are very expensive and they cannot afford to buy them. Consequently, there are people there who have gone blind.

When I heard this story, I thought “If my useless glasses could benefit other people, wouldn't that be great ?” - so I made a donation.

今日は、２００２年のワールドカップの思い出の品を紹介します。

２００２年のワールドカップは日韓共同開催でした。そのときに配られたカードです。イギリス人の友人からもらいました。友人の説明によると、当時海外ではフーリガンの問題がありました。「そういう乱暴な人ばかりじゃないよ。」と会場となる日本に理解してもらう目的で作られたそうです。

カードには、サッカーの歴史や当時のイングランドチームのこと、「Nice　move！」（ナイスプレイ）「Send　him off！！」（ヤツをゲームから降ろせ）などの英語が紹介されています。

みなさんも何か思い出の品はありますか？

Are you interested in the Soccer World Cup ?
It has become quite a topic on the JOI message board.

Today, I would like to introduce a souvenir from the 2002 World Cup.

The 2002 World Cup was co-sponsored by Korea and Japan. At this time, these cards were handed out. I got this from an English friend. According to my friend's explanation, at that time there were some problems with hooligans. These cards were apparently made for Japanese audiences who came to the stadiums, to help them understand that,“Not all the people are this violent”.
