私が住んでいるのは新潟です。今回は新潟のニュースを紹介します。
去る９月２６日、トキの自然放鳥が行われました。自然放鳥というのは、人の手で育てていた鳥を、かごから出し、自然にもどすというものです。
トキは昔、日本各地で見ることができた鳥だそうです。ところが、トキはきれいな羽根の鳥なので、羽根を 手に入れるために人間がトキを捕まえて殺してしまったり、環境が汚染されてトキが育たなくなったりしました。新潟県の佐渡に数羽だけしかいなくなり、とうとう絶滅してしまいました。
トキの学名はNipponia Nipponです。トキは まさに日本の鳥です。これでは、だめだと考えた日本は、その後、中国からトキを譲ってもらい、たくさんのトキを育てました。また、トキが生活できるように佐渡の自然を守りました。
今回10羽だけ、自然に帰しました。トキにはGPS装置がつけられていて、元気にしているか、どこにいるか確認できるそうです 。残念ながら、確認できたのは８羽で、残りの２羽(わ)はどうしているのかわからないそうです。

I live in Niigata. In this blog I am going to introduce some Niigata news.
Last year, on September 26th ,some Crested Iris were released into the wild from captivity .
This means that human-bred birds were sent into their natural habitats for the first time.
The Crested Iris was a bird that could be seen in various areas of Japan along time ago. However, people caught and killed them for their beautiful white feathers, and due to environmental pollution the Crested Iris could no longer breed here . Only a few birds were left alive in a place named Sado in Niigata, before they finally became extinct .
The scientific name of the Crested Iris is Nipponia Nippon . The Crested Iris is indeed the most Japanese of birds. This can not be allowed to happen thought Japan, so they asked China to donate some Crested Iris and raised a lot of Irises. And then they preserved the Sado area so that the Irises could live there.
At this time only 10 birds have been returned to the wild. The Crested Irises have been connected to a GPS system so that you can check if they are healthy or where they are. Unfortunately I could only confirm 8 of the 10 Irises . I wonder where the other 2 could be ?
