師走 Shiwasu(the twelfth month of the lunar calendar)

★English translation

The month of November ends this week.
There is only one more month left this year.
Have you ever heard of the word 'Shiwasu' ?
Shiwasu is another name for the month of December in Japanese.

There are apparently various opinions about the origins of this name .
The most common one is that because December is at the end of the year, everyone is busy. Even the master (or Shishou), who usually never runs, can be seen bustling so the month came to be called Shisu or Bustling Master and eventually became Shiwasu .

Another theory is that the Shi in Shiwasu refers to a Houshi or Buddhist Priest . At the end of the year, Buddhist priests usually race ( hase hashiru ) from house to house to read out Buddhist sutras, so the name could have been originally Shi Hase Tsuki or The month of the Racing Priests which then, it seems, became Shiwasu .

The month of December is certainly a busy one, and then it is over just like that.
I also have a lot of plans for the month, from Bounen Kai ( End of Year Parties) and Christmas to end of year cleaning and prepations for the New Year .

How is your December usually ? Are you busy too ?
