旅の思い出に(Memories of a trip)

さわやかな5月、 この季節に旅行するのは  本当に気持ちいいですね。
 
さて、私は、どんな旅行でも必ず 「お土産や さん」に入ります。旅の思い出に「フクロウ」を買うためです。

いつの頃からか、我が家で は、「旅の思い出はフクロウ」と決めています。フクロウは鳥です。 「梟」と書きます。
「福ろう」と表(あ らわ)すと、「幸福を まねく鳥」という意味になります。日本人は、めでたい時、 「鯛」を食べ ます。
新年を迎えてよろこぶ時は、 「昆布」を食べ ます。　

「福ろう」はたいていのお土産やさんにあります。
陶器が有名な所では陶器のフクロウ、木 材が有名な所では木彫りの フクロウが売られています。

みなさんは旅の思い出に何を買い ますか。何を集めていますか。

Ah...refreshing May. It really feels great to travel during this season.

Anyway, whatever kind of trip I take, I always go into a souvenir shop without fail, for the purpose of buying an owl as a memento of the trip.

Some time ago, our family decided that "trip mementos were owls". An owl is a bird. It is usually written as 「梟 fukurou」 . But if you write it as 「福(ふく)ろ う fukurou」—using the character that means lucky—it takes on the meaning of a bird that brings good luck. When Japanese celebrate (or medetai), they eat a particular fish called tai. When they greet the new year, they eat kombu (seaweed slices).

Fukurou (lucky birds) are founds in most souvenir shops. In places famous for porcelain, they sell ceramic owls; in places where the timber is famous, wooden owl sculptures are sold.
