みなさんの好きな色は何ですか？ What is your favorite color ?

私たちの周りにはたくさんの色があります。
人間が識別できるのは何十万、何百万色とも言われていますが、光の当たり方なども考えるとその数は無限になるそうです。色の名前も、本当にたくさんの数があってさまざまです。

私が大好きな色は、藍色です。藍色は青色のひとつですが、普通の青よりも深みのある色です。私の生まれた徳島県では、昔から藍の生産がとても盛んに行われていて、今でも実際に藍染めを体験できる施設があります。

その藍にちなんだことわざをひとつご紹介します。

青は藍より出でて藍より青し　
(あおは あいより いでて あいより あおし)

青色の染料は、植物の藍を原料としているが、その染料で染めたものは、藍よりも青い、という意味で、弟子が師匠（先生）よりも優れていることのたとえに使われます。

この言葉を聞くと、いつも向上心を持ってがんばろう、という気持ちになります。きれいな「青」になれるよう、努力します！

私が大好きな色は、藍色(あいいろ)です。藍色は青色(あおいろ)のひとつですが、普通(ふつう)の青よりも深(ふか)みのある色です。私(わたし)の生(う)まれた徳島県(とくしまけん)では、昔(むかし)から藍の生産(せいさん)がとても盛ん(さかん)に行(おこな)われていて、今(いま)でも実際(じっさい)に藍染(あいぞ)めを体験(たいけん)できる施設(しせつ)があります。

青色の染料(せんりょう)は、植物(しょくぶつ)の藍を原料(げんりょう)としているが、その染料で染(そ)めたものは、藍よりも青い、という意味(いみ)で、弟子(でし)が師匠(ししょう)（先生(せんせい)）よりも優(すぐ)れていることのたとえに使(つか)われます。

この言葉(ことば)を聞(き)くと、いつも向上心(こうじょうしん)を持(も)ってがんばろう、という気持(きも)ちになります。

★English translation

There are so many colors all around us. It is said that humans can distinguish up to tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of colours, but when one thinks of the way in which an application of light or other factors can affect them, then there could be an infinite number of colors. There are also very many and varied names for colors.

My favorite is indigo. Indigo is one of the blues family, which is deeper and richer than the average blue.  In my hometown of Tokushima Prefecture, the production of indigo used to be very popular and even today there are a some facilities that offer indigo dyeing workshops and experiences.

Here is a proverb that is related to the color indigo. 

Ao ha ai yori idete ai yori aoshi.  
(Lit.)Blue comes out more than indigo,and is bluer than indigo.

The dye for the color blue is made from indigo plant ingredients but the dyed goods are bluer than the original indigo; which is used as a metaphor to mean that the pupil is superior to the master.

 Whenever I hear this proverb, I usually get a feeling to get up and improve myself .

I want to try to be a more beautiful color blue.
